A gift of peonies-soft petals, steady opening + the quiet permission to let our own radiance bloom.

Last week, I sat in the glowing dark of Belvoir St Theatre watching Meow Meow’s The Red Shoes — a riot of movement, emotion, artistry and raw expression.

The performance was dazzling, yes, but something else happened too…Something quieter. Something deeper.

As Meow Meow leapt, stumbled, rose, collapsed and reclaimed herself again, I was reminded of a truth we often forget:

Our bodies hold stories long after the mind believes it has let them go.

And those stories live in our muscles, our breath, our posture, our tension, our tiredness… until something invites them to move.

Movement does that.

Breath does that.

And so does tapping (Emotional Freedom Techniques - EFT).

Gary Craig — the founder of EFT — once said:

“The cause of all negative emotion is a disruption in the body’s energy system.”

When I first heard that, years ago, I felt it like a spark down my spine. Because it explains those moments where you say “I’m fine”… but your body says otherwise.

Tight chest.

Clenched jaw.

Tired eyes.

Heavy shoulders.

Holding your breath without noticing.

These are signs of energetic blockages — places where old stress, unmet needs, emotional residue or unspoken truth has paused the natural flow of life-force within you.

And the beautiful thing?

You don’t need a theatre stage to release them.

You don’t need perfect technique.

You just need a willingness to tap… gently… honestly… consistently.

So today, I want to share two simple tapping sequences — inspired by the emotional movement I witnessed that night at Belvoir.

Think of them as small rituals that help your inner world exhale.

Tapping Sequence 1: Releasing Emotional Tension

Find a quiet space where you can speak aloud without judgment. Rate your current level of tension from 0-10 (10 being the highest). Notice where you land. There is no judgment here - just information. Now, let us start with the Setup Statements:

Setup Statements: Repeat the three setup statements while gently tapping on the Side of the Hand (SOH) point, saying aloud:

  1. "Even though my body is holding tension and I can feel where it is stuck, I deeply and completely accept how I feel." (Focus on where it is in your body).

  2. Even though this stress has been sitting in me for a while, I choose to open to love and accept myself anyway." (Notice where this stress is in your body).

  3. Even though part of me is tired of carrying this pressure, I honour myself for noticing it and I deeply and completely love and accept myself." (Notice where this pressure is in your body).

Tapping Through The Points

  1. Top of Head (TOH) Point:

Located directly on the crown of the head.

o "All this tension in my body."

  1. Eyebrow (EB) Point:

Located at the start of the eyebrow, near the bridge of the nose.

o "This emotional pressure I keep holding."

  2. Side of Eye (SE) Point:

Located on the bone at the outer corner of the eye.

o "It has lived here for too long."

  3. Under Eye (UE) Point:

Located on the bone directly under the eye.

o "And it is asking for movement."

  4. Under Nose (UN) Point:

Located between the nose and the upper lip.

         o "I feel it."

  5. Chin (CP) Point:

Located in the crease between the lower lip and chin.

          o "I acknowledge it."

  6. Collarbone (CB) Point:

Located just below the collarbone, about 2.5 cm (1 inch) from the base of the throat.

o  "I am giving it space."

  7. Under the Arm (UA) Point:

Located on the side of the body, about 10 cm (4 inches) below the armpit.

o "Letting the tension begin to loosen."

One deep breath...exhale slowly.

Second Round - Softening

  1. Top of Head (TOH) Point:

o "What if this could ease?"

  1. Eyebrow (EB) Point:

        o "Even a little."

  2. Side of Eye (SE) Point:

        o "Even just today."

  3. Under Eye (UE) Point:

         o "My body deserves softness."

  4. Under Nose (UN) Point:

         o "My body deserves release."

  5. Chin (CP) Point:

o "I allow the tension to unwind."

  6. Collarbone (CB) Point:

o  "I allow emotional pressure to move."

  7. Under the Arm (UA) Point:

o "I release what is ready to go."

Take a slow, deep breath. Rate your intensity again. If it is still above a 3, repeat the tapping sequence a few more times, adjusting the words to reflect how you are feeling now.

Tapping Sequence 2: Restoring Flow + Emotional Movement

Setup Statements: Repeat the three setup statements while gently tapping on the Side of the Hand (SOH) point, saying aloud:

  1. Even though I have felt stuck in places - emotionally, mentally, energetically - I choose to restore my flow and I deeply and completely love and accept myself.

  2. Even though part of me has held back or shut down, I am ready to reconnect and I deeply and completely love and accept myself.

  3. Even though it hasn’t always been easy to stay open, I am choosing movement now and I deeply and completely love and accept myself.

Tapping Through The Points

  1. Top of Head (TOH) Point:

Located directly on the crown of the head.

             o "Returning to flow."

  1. Eyebrow (EB) Point:

Located at the start of the eyebrow, near the bridge of the nose.

        o "Returning to myself."

  2. Side of Eye (SE) Point:

Located on the bone at the outer corner of the eye.

        o "Clearing old blockages."

  3. Under Eye (UE) Point:

Located on the bone directly under the eye.

o "Letting my energy move again."

  4. Under Nose (UN) Point:

Located between the nose and the upper lip.

         o "Letting emotion move safely."

  5. Chin (CP) Point:

Located in the crease between the lower lip and chin.

o "Letting life move through me."

  6. Collarbone (CB) Point:

Located just below the collarbone, about 2.5 cm (1 inch) from the base of the throat.

         o  "Feeling more spacious."

  7. Under the Arm (UA) Point:

Located on the side of the body, about 10 cm (4 inches) below the armpit.

         o "Feeling more alive."

One deep breath...exhale slowly.

Second Round - Embodying Flow

  1. Top of Head (TOH) Point:

             o "I welcome movement."

  1. Eyebrow (EB) Point:

        o "I welcome breath."

  2. Side of Eye (SE) Point:

        o "I welcome clarity."

  3. Under Eye (UE) Point:

         o "I welcome ease."

  4. Under Nose (UN) Point:

         o "I welcome vitality."

  5. Chin (CP) Point:

          o "I welcome flow."

  6. Collarbone (CB) Point:

         o  "I welcome emotional freedom."

  7. Under the Arm (UA) Point:

o "I welcome my energy returning to life."

Take a deep, grounding breath and release it fully. Now check in with your score again, from 0 to 10. Notice any shift - even a small decrease shows your nervous system is beginning to relax and respond. You are making real progress.

Movement, Theatre, Tapping - They All Speak the Same Language

They remind us of the truth:

Emotion wants to move.

When it does, we think clearly.

We breathe deeper.

We stand taller.

We feel lighter.

We become more us.

Tapping is the gentle choreography that invites your inner world back into motion. Like a private performance… one that only your heart can see.
