Easter has come and gone - the chocolate eggs have been eaten, the family gatherings have quietened and the festive energy has faded into the everyday hum of life. Yet for many, a thorn remains. Maybe it is the memory of overindulging, snapping at a loved one or feeling out of sync with the celebration you had hoped for. This hidden guilt can quietly coil around your heart like an unseen briar, dimming your inner light.
What if this lingering guilt is not a sign you failed - rather, an invitation to bloom? With the simple, powerful energy psychology tool of tapping (Emotional Freedom Techniques), you can transform old guilt into the rich soil for your next joyful breakthrough. Let us step into the Rose Garden of wellness together.
Why Guilt Lingers After Celebrations
When the excitement of a celebration fades, the mind often swoops in, whispering:
"You should have done better."
"You should have had more control."
"You should have been happier."
These "shoulds" create a heavy storm inside, clouding your natural brilliance and weighing down your heart. Yet even the most radiant Roses weather storms, trusting that cloudy days are just as essential to their growth as the sunlight. Guilt isn’t your enemy - it is a tender messenger, gently calling you home to yourself.
Much like a Rose grows through challenges, needing both sunshine and rain to flourish, our wellness journey naturally includes both moments of discipline and moments of indulgence. The thorns of guilt can prick us sharply when we focus only on our perceived failures, missing the breathtaking beauty of the entire growing process. Tapping offers a powerful way to shift our perspective, helping us see the whole Rose, not just the thorns. It reminds us to appreciate the unfolding of our journey, with all its imperfections and lessons and to treat ourselves with the same tenderness we would offer a delicate bloom. After all, we would never think to uproot an entire rosebush because one bloom wilted; likewise, we need not abandon our entire wellness journey because of one day - or even a few days - of indulgence.
Tapping Sequence #1: Releasing Lingering Easter Guilt
Take a deep breath, centre yourself and begin tapping along with me.
Before You Begin:
Assess your feelings about releasing lingering Eater guilt using the Subjective Units of Distress (SUD) scale:
0 represents feeling fully connected to your lingering Easter guilt, with complete acceptance and gentle honouring of it.
10 represents feeling disconnected, overwhelmed and resisting the process of releasing your Easter guilt.
Where would you place yourself right now? Take a moment to note this number. We will revisit it after the tapping to observe any shifts.
Setup Statements: Repeat the three setup statements while gently tapping on the Side of the Hand (SOH) point and saying aloud:
"Even though Easter has passed and I am still holding onto some lingering Easter guilt, I deeply and completely accept myself."
"Even though part of me wishes I could rewrite certain moments, I honour my humanness with love and accept myself."
"Even though I feel stuck in these old feelings, I choose to accept myself anyway."
Tapping Points:
Top of Head (TOH) Point:
Located directly on the crown of the head.
o "This lingering Easter guilt."
Eyebrow (EB) Point:
Located at the start of the eyebrow, near the bridge of the nose.
o "Still feeling heavy about last week."
Side of Eye (SE) Point:
Located on the bone at the outer corner of the eye.
o "Wishing I had done things differently."
Under Eye (UE) Point:
Located on the bone directly under the eye.
o "This tightness in my heart when I think about it."
Under the Nose (UN) Point:
Located between the nose and upper lip.
o "All these shoulds weighing on me."
Chin (CP) Point:
Located in the crease between the lower lip and chin.
o "It’s hard to let go of these feelings."
Collarbone (CB) Point:
Located just below the collarbone, about 2.5cm (1 inch) from the base of the throat.
o "Holding onto guilt like a thorn in my heart."
Under the Arm (UA) Point:
Located on the side of the body, about 10 cm (4 inches) below the armpit.
o "Maybe I can begin to loosen my grip."
Take a deep breath and gently let it out. Reassess your SUD level. Notice if you feel a greater sense of acceptance and connection with your emotions around releasing lingering Easter guilt. Repeat as needed until you sense a shift toward greater ease. Even though lingering Easter guilt can feel deeply emotional, it is also a disruption in your body’s energy system - one that tapping can help clear, one tender layer at a time.
Tapping Sequence #2: Planting Joyful Breakthroughs
Re-rate your SUD level, then begin.
Setup Statements: Repeat the three setup statements while gently tapping on the Side of the Hand (SOH) point and saying aloud:

"Even though joy sometimes feels far away, I honour where I am right now and I am willing to nurture fresh possibilities with love and patience."
